Travel Trips

Hue is culturally and historically significant. It was once Vietnam's Imperial City and later the country's capital under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945).

1. Best time to visit Hue

Its lasting drizzle by the end or early in the year makes well known among Vietnamese. Although the gloomy sky involves the tiny rain drops, it helps to create ancient atmosphere for Hue sceneries, and especially the Old citadel and the Perfume River (Huong river).

Therefore, October to March is the most wonderful time to visit Hue. If you have the capability to exchange temperature of endless blue sky, you should go during summer time. July and August are high seasons for domestic travels, so avoiding this notorious period for the scorching heat.

Because of its genial climate, Hue attracts tourists round the globe. During the dry season, you will see Hue city that is extremly peaceful and calm . The city has two seasons, dry and wet. During the dry season you will feel a comfortable and pleasant environment with humidity stays low.

In the other hand, during the wet season it stays gloomy and uncomfortable. Rain is often that often makes the condition worse for vacation. Rain water makes it hard to travel in the city. Many tourist spots in Hue can be visited in the dry season. Hue could be the most interesting destination where you can immerse in the ancient landscape of Hue old capital and enjoy the peaceful time away, if you want to conceal from the sunshine and heat.

Places like Imperial city, Thanh-Toan Bridge, Minh Mang tomb, Thien Mu Pagoda, Forbidden City and others are popular destinations here and tourist come here to see these spots. You can come here in any month of the dry season to enjoy your holiday , but according to my experience the best time to explore the beauty of old city is in the month of April.

2. How to get to Hue from Hanoi/ Ho Chi Minh city

2.1. By plane

Hue's Phu Bai airport is about 15 kilometres from Hue city centre and presently only serves domestic flights between HCMC and Hanoi. Taxi fares from airport to city are approximately 250,000 VND and a motorbike taxi should be around 200,000 VND. The airport also offers a bus service to cover the route and you can book this at the airport for 50,000 VND although it's not always running.

2.2. By train

Hue is an express stop on the main north-south train line between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The train station is located at the eastern end of Le Loi Road, on the south bank of the Ben Ngu River. Express trains are numbered with an SE prefix, and local trains, which cost less but take a lot longer, are prefixed TN. The latter may be your only choice if your destination is not an express stop -- connecting to a local train from a nearby express stop will usually take longer than just taking the local all the way there. A dizzying array of rates are available, depending on the speed of the train, whether you're sitting or sleeping, and whether you choose a hard or soft surface to do it on. Always check availability one day in advance when possible, and arrive an half hour early for your departure.

2.3. By buses

Although catching the local bus is an incredibly cheap way of getting around the province, it's by far the slowest and most complicated way to travel – conductors rarely speak English, the buses can be crowded, there is rarely any air-con and stops are frequent, so you'll need to stay on the ball and have some kind of idea of where you need to disembark as it's unlikely the conductor will let you know when you get to your destination. Prices also vary depending on the mood of your driver and buses frequently breakdown. Fatal accidents remain way too common.

The prices quoted below are correct for 2017, but don't be surprised if you are asked for double. We found booking a tourist bus in town turned out to be far cheaper, more reliable and a safer bet. However, if you want to take a tourist bus, please ask us VIETNAM CHARM TRAVEL.
