1. Best time to visit Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh is one of the most beautiful places in the North of Vietnam. Ninh Binh landscape is harmonious between river and mountain, with historical stories in Dinh King, Le King.  When travelling to Ninh Binh, you can’t miss impressive landscapes like Trang An, Tam Coc, Bai Dinh pagoda, Phat Diem rock church, Bich Dong pagoda, Hang Mua, Cuc Phuong National Park, Thung Nham garden bird, etc.

The best time to travel Ninh Binh is between March and October. During this time, the landscapes in Ninh Binh are at their best. 2. How to travel from Hanoi

It  takes travelers around 2 hours to arrive in Ninh Binh city, which is 90km south of Hanoi. Following are some useful guides for the 5 most common options of transportation to get to Ninh Binh.

2.1. Coach/bus

For such a moderate distance, travelling by coach is highly recommended due to the ease of catching coaches at any time at Giap Bat Station (or known as another name the Southern Station), and the most economic price at only US$3 per ticket. Ninh Binh Station would be the final destination of coaches routine Hanoi – Ninh Binh, which is located right in the heart of the city. Suggestions for high quality coach firm are Minh Long and Hoang Long buses.

2.2. Train

Departing from Hanoi, the Reunification Express Train Hanoi – Ninh Binh stops in Nam Dinh City and then goes straight to Ninh Binh Train Station in the center of Ninh Binh City. Travelling by train will take around two and a half hours with the price varying between US$ 2.5 - $5 depending on types of ticket.

2.3. Motorbike

Travelling by motorbike might be a good choice for passengers enjoying sightseeing the beauty of Vietnam villages with lush green rice paddies; grandiose mountains or poetic rivers on the sides of the road. The routine is easy enough to go without any map since you only have to follow National Highway 1A to the North and pay attention to milestones along the road.
 
Motorbikes for rent are available in a number of stores, travel agents or hotels inside Hanoi Old Quarter with a price of around US$10/day. However, you must deposit an amount of money up to US$500 as well as your identification paper at the motorbike agents in order to rent one.

2.4. Bicycle

This method is especially for tourists possessing good health and having strong will to get the experience of a “coureur”. Following exactly the same routine with motorbikers indicated above, cycler may not only enjoy the beauty of stunning views slowly but also improve ones’ health by a margin.

2.5. Taxi

The easiest and safest way but least enjoyable and most expensive method since the only thing you need to do is to wave a taxi from your hotel, getting on and then getting off at your desired destination and pay fee. The waiting time of a taxi is up to 5 hours so you may have plenty amount of time to enjoy a day trip in the ancient city of Vietnam.
 
A two-way taxi may cost you approximately US$150 for a full trip around Ninh Binh.

3. Hotels in Ninh Binh

•    Emeralda Resort Ninh Binh in Gia Vien District is 5-star quality, a sign that there is demand for luxury in this region. There is a range of rooms, a nice restaurant, spa and meeting facilities, everything you would expect of quality accommodation.
 
•    Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel & Resort in Hoa Lu close to Tam Coc Cave is 5-star accommodation with all the facilities you would expect from that, including spa and an outdoor pool that is open throughout the year. There are 125 comfortable rooms of differing sizes, something to suit everyone.
 
•    Tam Coc Garden behind the Bich Dong Pagoda just 4 km from the centre of Tam Coc has deluxe bungalows as well as a pool.
 
•    Chez Loan in Tam Coc has become famous because Loan, its owner is a cordon bleu chef. It has 2 bungalows and a further 15 rooms.
 
•    Ninh Binh Legend Hotel is in the centre of the city. It is a great base for touring in the region while its facilities such as spa, massage and pool means it is an excellent place to relax at the end of the day.
 
•    Thuy Anh Hotel is in the heart of town, close to the Market and Post Office. It is made up of two buildings with 37 simple and comfortable rooms, each with Wi-Fi, TV and balcony.  The buildings are linked by the restaurant between.
 
•    Vissai Hotel is another city centre hotel with fitness facilities and outdoor pool. All of the rooms have free Wi-Fi and minibar. There is a restaurant and after you finish your dinner, try the night club.
 
There are also guesthouses and hostels locally while it is also possible to book a homestay to really get close to rural life. That is an especially good experience if you are on a Vietnam family holiday which you hope will be an educational experience, as well as fun, for the kids. While there is much to see in Vietnam, there is no need to rush because the internal transport system is good, and air flight is cheap.

4. Travel suggestion schedules in Ninh Binh

Option 1

Morning : Pick you up at 8.00 AM at hotel in Hanoi, then depart for NinhBinh city towards to the South of Hanoi, it takes about 2,5 hours to get there(130 km).
 
Arrive in Hoa Lu, Visit Hoa Lu - The Acient Capital and the remaining two temples of Dinh King & Le King. 2). We will arrive in Tam Coc (Three Grottoes). Visit Hoa lu, around 16 km from Tam Coc by car, Take some steps to climb up the viewpoint to take photo of Hoalu panorama, charmed by the marvelous scenery offered by the mountains, rivers and temple, from here drive back road  to go to Tam Coc. Drive along the village roads with beautiful sightseeing and friendly local people.
 
Then drive in 30 minutes move to Tam Coc grottoes, have lunch at vietnamese restaurant with local food(1hr).
 
Afternoon : Take an exciting boat ride in Tam Coc grottoes(Halong bay inland) that we will enjoy the spectacular scenery while gliding along the river among rice paddies and ranges of limestone mountains peaking up towers over you(2 hrs).

Option 2

DAY 1: HANOI - NINH BINH - CUC PHUONG NATIONAL PARK (L,D)
 
8.00 AM Depart from Hanoi by private vehicle to Cuc Phuong National Park . Visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre to learn about the important work being done to help protect the endangered species of the park. After lunch in the park restaurant, take a 2-hour trek through the old rainforest. Overnight in the guesthouse within the park.
 
DAY 2: CUC PHUONG - HOA LU - TAM COC HANOI (B,L)
 
After breakfast, head to the historic capital of Viet Nam Hoa Lu and the famous ancient temples of The Le and The Dinh Dynasties. Cycling for an hour on picturesque quiet roads through villages, rice fields, rivers and rocky outcrops to Tam Coc (12km) for lunch. After lunch, a sampan boat journey (1 hour) in Tam Coc - the heart of "Inland Ha Long Bay". Take in the beauty of the karsts formations as you pass along their base and row into one of the many caves carved through the limestone. Stop for a short rest near a small shrine before returning to the dock (1 hour). Totally, you have 2 hours on the sampan boat. Then drive back to Hanoi
